and when i go to the website in my browser, it%26#039;s not there. it takes me to the hosting website and says that the owner is currently working on their site. why would it be doing that?

You do not need to put in public_html, you need to put them under the directory which corresponds to your domain, like if your domain name is http://aplis.net/ you will find a directory named aplis.net in your hosting account. Provided that you have added the domain in your hosting account.

Sounds like they haven%26#039;t finished setting you up yet.

Other Replys:if you type manually www.websitename.com/index.html (note, actually include the webpage in the address too) does the page display?

Other Replys:the page that displays is still on the server and is the default page. delete it and you should be fine. just ftp in and look for it in your web directory. Or you may have uploaded your files to the root of the ftpsite and not the web directory. double check both
