What I want to do appeared simple at first glance but I%26#039;ve hit a snag, namely the cross domain security present in all modern browsers.

What I tried to do:

- Submit a form (file upload) to an iframe on a %26quot;host%26quot; page.

- Once the iframe has processed the request I want to snag one word from that page.

- The word taken from the page in the iframe should be put into an element on the %26quot;host%26quot; page.

Of course, as soon as the %26quot;host%26quot; page attempts to access the iframe%26#039;s DOM FireFox gets mad at me.

It is not possible for me to have this on the same domain (not even sub domain) so I%26#039;m a bit stuck. Would it be possible to achieve the same thing by writing an extension? I%26#039;ve looked at using XMLHttpRequest but it appears it is not possible to do it with that either (again due to security limitations).

If it weren%26#039;t for the different domain issue I%26#039;d be all set already. I understand the necessity of the restrictions and agree with them completely but that doesn%26#039;t ease my frustration :)

Other Replys:If you mean you want to host them on your local machine, then you will need to get and install some web server software . . . Apache or IIS for example. IIS comes on the disk for Win2K3 Pro, so if you are running Home Edition, you%26#039;ll likely have to go with Apache.

If you want to host it remotely, then find a server and register the domain name and add your files there. I would recommend this unless your have some experience as a sysadmin/webmaster.

No. Your hosting and domain registration are completely separate functions. The largest domain registrars all sell hosting, but they don%26#039;t seem to be very good at it, and you find lots of complaints (not ALL justified, of course) about them across the net.

I%26#039;m not sure that it makes sense to buy multiple domain names with different extensions. When%26#039;s the last time you wanted a book and went to Amazon.net, or Amazon.org? Mind you, it%26#039;s not very expensive to buy those three, but if you do that, maybe you should get the US extension, and the BIZ extensions as well? And then there are the other geographical extensions, such as CA for Canada, UK for Great Britain, and MS for Monteserrat. At some point, it gets absurd. Maybe the smart thing would be to let someone else get the NET website, and build traffic up there - because he is *forever* going to be having his users go to your COM website instead.

The server location (ns1.whatever) is set up at the registrar to point to where the server is. People don%26#039;t see that. All they see is your site at your domain name. They don%26#039;t see the domain nameserver. But it%26#039;s just a personal preference whether you want the nameservers to be personalized. Some think it looks more professional. You%26#039;d have to ask your hosting company to set up the nameserver to match your domain name, then go to your registrar and change the nameserver.

I have made a website before on Frontpage and uploaded it to Yahoo Geocities using the File Manager they have. It was simple and easy... However, I have since bought my own domain and am in the process of creating another website using FrontPage. I used GoDaddy.com to register and purchase my domain, and since they didn%26#039;t offer free webhosting I was advised to go with a free host like Awardspace.com, which I did. Last night I tried to upload my pages a number of ways, but I must be doing something wrong because NOTHING is working. I uploaded a page to the file manager there and linked my awardspace account with my domain name... but it%26#039;s not showing up. I also tried FTP between FrontPage and awardspace, but FP is asking for things that awardspace didn%26#039;t supply me with... like (ftp://_________) and directory name, etc. Awardspace also has a program that accepts FP extensions, but I couldn%26#039;t get that to work either. I know I%26#039;m skipping a step somewhere or doing something wrong, but what?

i set up a domain and it is darkapec.com (if you wanted to check it out). the problem is it is with Office Live and they only allow 500mb of storage on the Basic account. i talked to some other educated people and they said IIS could host the website (internet information services) i have got a redirection to work (and that is http://75.100.152.208:1500/tsweb/), but i dont know how to set it up to host the websites files. (i dont want to use any other service to host my website) so if you know a program that i can use to use MY computer to host stuff on my site or a way to setup IIS to host the site that would be great.

If you use XP pro you can use IIS to host it, though it will limit you to 2 or 3 users at a time. XP Home won%26#039;t support it. You could use Apache though (apache can run on windows too) and not be limited by users. You%26#039;ll want to research what all you want to do with the site and decide if you need microsoft based or not.

If you use IIS, all you need to do from there is start the Default web site, put your files in c:\inetpub\wwwroot, and be sure if you%26#039;re running a router or firewall that port 80 is opened and reaching your server.

We registered a domain through a company that register%26#039;s domains on behalf of clients as an agent of the registrar enoms. We have initiated a transfer request with a new host 3 times now and each time the current company which registered the site will not give us the authorization code we require to complete the transfer. They give us the run around until the 2 weeks window to give the authorization code to the new host expires. Is there any thing we can do to solve this situation ? First do a WHOIS to see who is listed as the registrar and registrant of your domain name. If you are listed, then you don%26#039;t need the agent. If the agent put themselves there, then you are going to have to get their cooperation, reluctantly or not. Get them to change the registrant name on the account to you. They should be willing to help you. If they are reluctant, then get their phone number and call them often...very often. Make a nuisance of yourself and they will eventually want to help you. Go up the ladder, talk to supervisors, whatever it takes. As a last resort, you can complain to ICANN, but that may have little effect. You can also complain to the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and your State officials.

Simple really.

find out your computers IP address ( has to be an external address ) not a 192.168.x.x IP

if it is internal then you need to seup nat on your router to forward any incoming port 80 connections to your internal IP.

Once you have your external ip and routing done ( if needed ) set your domains DNS A - record to point to your IP.

Once done, enable your webserver.. IIS or Apache etc so it listens on port 80. Put some index.html file in your www directory on your machine and hay presto.

Oh and yes, it can be done on XP , so you dont need 2003

How to change my Yahoo Store Domain Name?

I have a store under a domain name that I purchased through yahoo, but I really want to use a domain name that is registered elsewhere.

It looks like the only solution (without having to build a new store) is to create a CNAME in the store domains list, then redirect from the registrar.

1. Your Domain - The most important thing to remember is to never never move your domain to the hosting company, you want to keep your domain at your current register company and only change the DNS servers. The reason is that you want to keep control of that domain name as bad hosting companies in the past have sometimes held it hostage to make you pay and stay with them or if they go bankrupt its hard for you to get your domain back. I have a website for a swim team called pvfish.org hosted with cws.net. I am the webmaster. Recently, I have been asked to create email addresses for various personnel within the team (i.e. coaches, business manager, etc.). Check with CWS if they provide a separate domain mail service for hosted domains. If so you should be able to log into their admin for the site and set up the addresses. If not you need to find another email host, and set the dns mx records to point to it. Most hosting sites should offer this service.

The first thing to do is a domain name look-up on your domain ( http://centralops.net/co/DomainDossier.v... ) and see who is listed as being the owner of the domain. I have seen many times where these %26quot;free domain for life%26quot; web hosting sites have themselves listed as owner of the domain name. If you are listed as the owner of the domain the easiest solution is to just move your domain to another provider. as far as being legal i have seen many businesses change their %26quot;terms of service%26quot; leaving it up to the client if they want to stay there or move to another provider. This may just be the tip of the iceberg if you discover that the domain name is not registered to you.

Anybody that sends an email can make it look like it came from wherevever they want.

Spammers use this alot, I even get mail that looks like its come from me. All the spammers do is change the from details in thier email options. The chances are they are not actually sending it from your domain

Sending emails is not restricted to your ISP, if I know your domain, I too can set my Outlook to say it is sending from your domain while I am really sending from my own SMTP server via my own ISP services.

Are you sure the email is going out from your own website? Do you have a Webmail service on your site ? Have you tried login in to it yourself with a wrong user name and password ? If you can, simply document your steps in an email and mail it to your support explaining your problem and how to replicate it,

If you can not replicate the problem, I would think it is spammers who has recorded your email address and are flooding others under your name. I get that done to me as well. I simply ask the people to look at the Email headers to see where it really came from (SMTP server).

Other Replys:The ability to send email (SMTP) via your domain WITHOUT user/password protection depends on several things.

SMTP servers usually allow email to be forwarded if it originated on the same network and contains a correct from address.

The only reason you would need a username and password is if they have setup secure SMTP. They may do this if they are allowing SMTP forwarding from outside their network.

Is you domain hosted with your ISP ?

if it is then when you connect to your ISP you are given an IP address which puts you on their network. The SMTP server will then allow you to forward (send) email without a username and password.

This does not mean anyone can send email via your domain. The way to check for an %26quot;open proxy/smtp%26quot; is to use one of the online port/proxy checkers. Put in the smtp.domain.co.uk address of your smtp server and it will tell you if it is open or not. If it is OPEN then you need to contact your hosting company and tell them to fix it.

a web developer is a company or individual that has experience in design and development.

now if you want to sell stuff on your website you will need to get someone who has experience in developing websites in either PHP or ASP, depending on which you like. now E-commerce is much different than a regular website, so don%26#039;t hire a designer to develop your whole website because they probably won%26#039;t know their *** from a shopping cart to a banner.

You can aboslutely do this. Let me outline the steps for you:

1. Your husband registered his name with a domain name registrar. Go to www.whois.sc and type in your domain name in the search box. The resulting information will tell you who the registrar of the domain name is and when it expires.

2. Once you have this information, you can now initiate a %26quot;transfer%26quot; of your husband%26#039;s domain name to Yahoo. Go here to start this process:

3. It normally takes 6 days to move your domain name from your current registrar to Yahoo.

I recommend that you transfer your domain name to Yahoo as opposed to redirecting your domain to another provider. If you move your name to Yahoo, you will have more services available to you to build a web site.

We have a Microsoft Windows 2000 Server environment with approximately 8 Windows 2000 servers and 80 workstations.

We are not running Active Directory or any domain based policies. Its a simple network really. We currently use Outlook 2003 with POP3 email that is hosted by our ISP.

We want to deploy Microsoft Exchange server so that Outlook 2003 can use more advanced features like calendaring, etc. We need to also have Outlook Web Access.

Do we need to convert to active directory, or can I do this without having to convert right now?

You must have active directory to use exchange server 2000 or 2003. It is not very difficult to install active directory especially if you don%26#039;t plan to use group policies but if you do decide to deploy it I would recommend using a 2003 server as the domain controller as there are many improvements to active directory from 2000.

For a new domain name just go to any big register, enom.com is a good one and so is godaddy.com. One important rule is to always keep your domain separate from the company you get your hosting from. Too many hosting companies use domains as hostage to keep you from moving when they start to suck.

I bought a domain name and am almost ready to put up my own web site. I need someplace to host that will:

2. Allow me to use Google Adsense (I doubt I%26#039;ll make any real money, but why not try?)

Who ever buys the name must have or open an account with the registrar you registered the name with then you can transfer the name into their account. Its very easy to do.

As for selling it if all you want is the $10 eBay might work but remember its an auction and you never know how much you will get. On top of that you will have listing and selling fees

If you payed for a domain name and it has not expired then you still have a right to use it, but if it expired or you canceled then you will have to get a new one.
