Hi,
I have designed a website for a company. The issue is they have an existing website which they want taken down and this website put up in the existing domain name (xxxx.com.au). How do I find out where the files are for the existing website and who hosts it etc? What questions do I need to ask them? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Help with uploading website to an existing domain?
ask the company who hosts it and have them give you the FTP login credentials.
you can probably find out who hosts it yourself by doin a whois lookup on the domain http://www.swhois.net

Check the whois details of the website and ask for FTP user name and password
Other Replys:Do a whois on the domain name. The company should have that information. If they don%26#039;t, it%26#039;s they that will have to deal with the registrar to get that information. You need the ftp name, login and password to get access to the domain. You also need to know the root directory of the web page. This is normally NOT the root of the domain.
Once you have that information, you delete what%26#039;s there and upload what you have. Then you test, test, test!!!! Do remember, that if you developed on windows and the site is hosted on a unix server, you can run into problems with case. Windows is not case sensitive and unix is!
Other Replys:You will need to get another host to take over the existing domain, the original holders will charge for this. Then you can simply ftp the new site to their server.
