If I purchase a domain name and want to apply pages to it, how do I go about it? where will the site be hosted ... is it on my machine or on a 3rd party server??
Similarily if i need a database behind the webpage is that hosted in the same place??
How do i tie a webpage to a domain name?
You purchase your domain name, this is then activated, you can then load your pages through an ftp programme, mysql database normally would be included with the hosting, beware though I have not seen any free hosts which include databases.

if you are buying a domain space... the files will be on the server not on your system and so will be the database....
you can use the interface provided by the domain provider to upload files viewing the directory structure or u can use ftp softwares like filezilla to transfer files.
Other Replys:Each Domain name has a DNS web record, which points the traffic for that domain to a particular server where the website is hosted.
You can either host the website on your computer or a 3rd party server, it just has to be pointed using the IP address.
Usually the database will be hosted at the same place the website is.
Other Replys:you have to buy webhosting from another company say godaddy.com
then you have to change the domain name server for your domain to ns1.godaddy.com and ns2.godaddy.com ,etc
Other Replys:If you go to this site www.123-reg.co.uk and enter your domain name it will take you throught the stages you need to set up a website, your site will be hosted by a third party and you will pay a small monthly fee for the service, also a setup fee.
You can chose from a few different packages and there are a number of sites that you can use, I chose this one as it is a registered link and is cheap.
If you havn%26#039;t already registered your domain name you can check it on this site aswell, thats the first step really. If the one you want is taken it will suggest alternatives such as .org or .net.
