Horror or Suspense movies in the Public domain?

Preparing to host a %26quot;Horror Movie Night%26quot; at a college. The university is really intense about movie rights because they were recently fined.

I recently found several website with long lists of Public Domain Movies.

Has anyone actually watched any Horror or Suspense movies that are now Public Domain? Which do you recomend?

...the wikipedia website, fortunately and apparently lists just about all of the films that have been deemed public domain; as I used to run a public domain-based mail order videotape business, I can pretty much tell you, with a reasonable amount of certainty, that this list is fairly accurate and up-to-date...

...being that the films list here ARE in public domain, do not expect super-wham-a-dyme remastered quality on these prints; obviously, if there was interest in investing the money in professionally remastering any of these films, the distributors would renew the copyrights on them (...although a scattered few have, in fact, been seen in a newly remastered light...%26quot;Night of the Living Dead%26quot;, for example...without the process of renewing the copyright)...

...it IS difficult to recommend specific films for your purpose; there are so many unpolished gems in this fold, you%26#039;d be like a kid in a candy store; however, if I had to pick my absolute favorites, well...

%26quot;A Bucket of Blood%26quot;

%26quot;Carnival of Souls%26quot;

%26quot;City of the Dead%26quot;

%26quot;Cabinet of Dr. Caligari%26quot;

%26quot;Dementia 13%26quot;

%26quot;Devil Bat%26quot;

%26quot;The Fatal Hour%26quot; (%26#039;Mr. Wong%26#039; entry)

%26quot;Giant Gila Monster%26quot;

%26quot;House on Hauted Hill%26quot;

%26quot;The Killer Shrews%26quot;

%26quot;Last Man on Earth%26quot; (...my personal favorite)

%26quot;The Lodger%26quot; (...early Hitchcock, of course)

%26quot;Little Shop of Horrors%26quot;

%26quot;The Manster%26quot;

%26quot;Night of the Living Dead%26quot;

%26quot;Nightmare Castle%26quot;

%26quot;Phantom of the Opera%26quot;

%26quot;Plan 9 from Outer Space%26quot;

%26quot;Screaming Skull%26quot;

%26quot;Tormented%26quot;

%26quot;Vampyr%26quot;

%26quot;Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet%26quot;

%26quot;The Wasp Woman%26quot;

...if you are looking for a spefic distributor, who carries a good number of these films on DVD (...and manages to find some of the absolute very best prints, too), might I recommend the Alpha Video label, through www.oldies.com...
