You subscribe to the use of a domain name through any of several companies; this is like putting your name in the phone book. But you don%26#039;t get a phone number (or IP address) from doing this; you have to establish a web host (or subscribe to one, which is what most small players do) and that will give you the IP address which you then attach to your domain name by contacting your name subscription service. The service will then place that address on the DNS network so that anyone browsing your domain name goes to the correct computer and can get your pages. Domain name subscriptions are good for a year; hosting contracts are usually for a year but can be for any period mutually agreeable. If you want to change hosts, it is easy enough to do; just subscribe to the new one, download your pages, and change the IP address in your domain name subscription.

That just sucks. It seems like there are alot of those people around that take advantage of people like that. I%26#039;ve heard this story alot. You could always sue him for the domain name since you paid him to register it for you. Really he should have registered it in your name. It sounds like he was ripping you off too. You can get a domain for $1.99 when you get hosting at http://www.doggydomains.com The hosting starts at $5.95 a month.
