I'm thinking of starting a web hosting company. Is this a good plan to start with?

i%26#039;d like opinions on what i have to offer for my initial plan. In the future i want to offer more space and bandwidth to everyone while keeping the price the same. I only plan on offering 1 hosting plan and expanding the space and bandwidth in the future as i grow. Is this a good start? There are many bigger hosting companies that offer insane ammounts of space and bandwidth, Is the market to crowded? should i not make the investment in a webhosting company and do something else? can i compete with those big companies even though i don%26#039;t offer insane quantities of disk space and bandwidth?

$9.95/month

no overselling space or bandwidth

2GB space

20GB monthly bandwidth

unlimited domains

unlimited email accounts with webmail

unlimited MYSQL databases

PHP, CGI, etc

CPanel, Fantastico Deluxe

shared SSL

ticket support system, email support, (live chat and phone support in the future)

and much more...

If your main selling point is going to be a good price for specific space and bandwidth, then you%26#039;re going to find yourself with a LOT of competition. Try to find a niche market.

For example, I offer web hosting to a specific target audience, with a LOT of hand-holding and personal attention and custom maintenance services, and my plan STARTS at $300 a month (much more when continual SEO is involved).

You could also make the hosting part of a social networking culture... let people actually MEET the people that they%26#039;ll be sharing their computer with... social shared web hosting? Make it a matchmaking service... for example, what if all the folks sharing machine A are on a Linux server, and they%26#039;re all PHP programmers building content management systems.

Server B might be people that are all running online stores, sharing thoughts with each other on how to market their stores (and hopefully they%26#039;re not competitors).

Before I can answer this question, I have one of my own - how do you plan to sell it? And a related question - why do you think your plan to sell it will work?

If you don%26#039;t have definite, specific answers to both of these questions, you%26#039;re not ready to start a business, no matter how good your product or service may be.
